Future Energy Capability Leader and Master of Virtual Power Plant technology at Aurecon, Ben McGarry is a recognised innovator in the Australian energy sector. Ben has worked across strategy, infrastructure advisory, project development, project engineering, and technology R&D roles in the Australian and US power markets.
Increasingly, energy no longer flows consistently from large centralised generators, one way to consumers, instead it now flows with much greater complexity and variability between ‘prosumers’. The opportunities and risks are enormous, and as Technical and Specialist Advisor to his South Australian Government client, Ben spearheaded the performance requirements supporting potentially the world’s largest Virtual Power Plant (VPP) distributed across thousands of homes to enhance stability and grid resilience.
