Structural engineer and Master of tall buildings, Andy Mak was acknowledged for his Digital Wind Method innovation that enables engineers to directly solve the wind-induced dynamic effects of complex and tall buildings.
Traditionally, structural engineers would seek advice from wind consultants as to how a design will perform under wind loading, and if occupant comfort criteria such as motion sickness are satisfied or not.
Frustrated by this approach and concerned that methods consultants employed were no longer optimum in today’s world of complex shapes and super-slim towers, Andy developed his Digital Wind Method that can simulate real-time events on high-rise building finite element model.
