Opened to the public in April 2017, the Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) complex features a state-of-the-art health facility and teaching hospital comprising 450 beds and will grow to a 738-bed facility in 2021, with a design built for expansion beyond that capacity. The 160 000-metre squared facility includes a central energy plant, mental health facility and teaching hub, with the main building forming the centre of the complex which is split over six functional levels and includes roof top plant rooms and a helipad.
The SCUH is designed to link seamlessly with the outdoors and incorporates respite spaces like open landscaped courtyards and public spaces that will aid the healing process and offer comfortable, healthy and accessible places for patients and staff to regenerate.
