What Engineering = Humanity means to me:
Engineers wouldn’t traditionally deem their craft as being benevolent, altruistic, compassionate, tolerant, charitable or magnanimous (yes, I checked a thesaurus). But this idea of ENGINEERING = HUMANITY really shifts the focus of how important the things we do are, not only to the direct stakeholders, but to all human kind.
If we start to think of ourselves as a kind and considered contribution to society, I believe we will be able to sell the dream; to attract more budding engineers into the industry and to sit in pride of place in society – what a combo! However, the ‘selling’ part of this requires just that – the pitch, the marketing, the appeal. I will take the equation one further; ENGINEERING x THE SELL = HUMANITY. Let’s go and tell this story. People want to listen!
