What Engineering = Humanity means to me:
At first glance this is about what engineers do: make life a little better for humanity, with each new product or piece of infrastructure. But I think it goes deeper. There’s something about engineering which goes to the heart of what it means to be human.
What is it that’s distinctive about being human? You could argue that the whole history of humanity, from making a tool out of a flint pebble, to making a solar panel out of sand, is the story of the creativity to take the random and chaotic raw materials at hand and create something new and useful. Looking at the world and imagining what could be created, and then bringing it to life – it’s a deeply human trait.
