Upgrading of 140 km of Gedo-Fincha-Lemlem Bereha Road

The project involved the upgrading of the existing gravel road to paved standards.  The terrain over the length of the route is undulating and included a 7 km mountain pass down a 1 000 m escarpment, which was a challenging task.

In association with local firm, Yerer Engineering, Aurecon carried out a feasibility study, environmental impact assessment (EIA), resettlement action plan (RAP), social impact assessment (SIA), and detailed design for the upgrading of this road.

The road is now under construction and is expected to facilitate the transport of sugar from the existing farm, and will also assist the development of additional areas in the valley for the cultivation of sugar cane plantations.
