Aurecon formed part of a joint venture to deliver the ASA Chrome Beneficiation Plant through a modified engineering, procurement and construction project. The project’s challenges included designing a processing plant with multiple modules, including a crushing and screening module, sizing and milling module, a coarse Dense Media Separation (DMS) module, a fine DMS module, a spiral module and a services module.
The ASA Chrome Beneficiation Plant joint venture was responsible for designing processes, equipment procurement and delivery to the site, installation of equipment, and testing and commissioning the plant.
Aurecon provided project management for the electrical and control aspects of the project. The joint venture is also responsible for the plant process producing the required material quantity in the correct grade.
The local community will benefit from the initiative through job creation during the construction phase and following through plant operation. The project also meets South Africa’s Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) requirements.
