Central Plaza Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand

Aurecon provided civil and structural design work for the Central Pattana Public Company’s shopping complex in Ubon Ratchathani province, Thailand. Known as the Central Plaza Ubon Ratchathani, this 72 500-square-meter building comprises three levels of retail area with one level of parking.

The architecture and design is draws its inspiration from the lotus flower and leaves – a symbol of the surrounding Southern Isaan area. To bring to life the design vision, Aurecon utilised post-tensioned concrete for the floors and structural steel for the roof. Given the local climate, special considerations were also made for flood protection.

This complex was opened in April 2013.
