In her role as Senior Regional Director for Gauteng, Portia Derby carries responsibility for the leadership and performance of the Johannesburg and Tshwane offices in South Africa.
The first African woman appointed to a senior management position involved in the operations of the company, Portia is passionate about transformation and development,
Derby has a BSc in Geology & Economics and a BSc (Honours) in Economics, both from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, as well as an MBA from the University of the Witwatersrand.
Her extensive experience in government includes her appointment as the Director-General for the Department of Public Enterprises, consulting to Transnet around strategy and corporate governance, as well as her tenure as the Department of Trade and Industry’s Chief Operating Officer. She also served as an advisor to the then Minister of Energy & Mineral Resources and was actively involved in the drafting of the Mining Charter.
With an intricate knowledge of government processes and procedures, and the ability to build strong multi-disciplinary teams, Derby is committed to advancing Aurecon’s vision in the region.
