Proudest moment in your career?

Installing state-of-the-art electrical design in Windsor Castle after the fire in 1992. The technology was impressive - it included top security and fire protection systems, integrated fibre optic lighting, chandeliers on winches, lighting for priceless art, all cleverly installed in a medieval building.

The most important lesson you learnt early in your career?

Leave your ego at the door. It gets in the way of making sound practical decisions.

Keys to a successful project delivery?

Plan and keep it simple. Communicate openly and regularly with all stakeholders. Look to the future and see what is coming around the next five corners.

Where do you see building services over the next five years?

Sustainability design will become standard. Engineers and designers will be highly trained in BIM (Building Information Modelling) software and modelling tools to give clients an operational perspective on efficient running of their buildings. This will encourage increased control and connectivity with contractors for a better coordinated result.

One of the great challenges facing the property industry is...

Sourcing low carbon products and materials. Integrating sustainable power and energy sources into buildings to meet the needs of a large geographical location.
