Qatar Railways Company (QRC) is undertaking a railway development programme including a mass transit system for the capital city, Doha, which includes four new lines. QRC has engaged a design and build contractor, RLS-JV, to undertake the Red Line South Underground section, short sections of the Blue and Green Lines and a connecting tunnel between the Red and Blue Lines.
RLS-JV engaged Aurecon to undertake the role of Design Verification Engineer (DVE) to check, verify and certify the design of the project works.
The Red Line South Underground section includes approximately 14km of twin bored tunnels, five underground stations including one interchange station, four switchboxes, three emergency escape shafts and numerous cross-passages between the tunnels.
The stations and switchboxes are designed as cut-and-cover boxes and the design includes extensive mechanical, electrical and plumbing services (MEP) plus interfaces with rail systems (by others).
Aurecon is providing design verification of civil, structural, geotechnical, tunnelling, architectural and MEP design services as well as reviewing systems assurance documentation.
