Proudest moment in your career?

Winning an Engineering Excellence Award for work on the Perth to Mandurah Rail Line and collecting the award on behalf of the team.

What are the keys to successful project delivery?

Simple really:

  • Time
  • Cost
  • Satisfied client
  • Motivated team and
  • Safety

Sounds easy doesn’t it? But getting all of these working at the same time is the project delivery challenge!

The most important lesson you learnt early in your career?

Early on I learnt a significant lesson from a very experienced Project Director. In essence the lesson was that the right answer is not always the best one and that our perceptions of what is the right answer will be different depending on our background and understanding. His experience saved the company a lot of money.

Where do you see Transport over the next five years?

Aurecon’s Transport team is in a great position to capitalise on its significant capability and to grow into markets around the globe including Asia and the Middle East. This will see more reliance on “virtual teams” where we move the work around the globe rather than moving the people. It is hard to see any of the transport expertise (road, rail, air and sea) not growing as demand increases due to congestion, the need to reduce emissions, urbanisation, global trade and the growth of mega cities. As the world faces these challenges the transport team, supported by many of the other expertise within Aurecon will grow and innovate to meet these challenges.

Enjoyment is…

Either seeing a successful project won and delivered or spending time with my wife.
