With over 21 years of experience in achieving infrastructure related outcomes for clients, Colin continues to focus on bringing a wide range of solutions and offerings to clients in the Data and Telecommunications, Energy and Water markets.
Your most challenging project? Why?
Implementing a turnkey solution for hosting information services across all JG Summit Holdings companies - one of the largest conglomerates in the Philippines with business interests in air transportation, banking, food manufacturing, hotels, petrochemicals, power generation, publishing, real estate and property development, and telecommunications.
The solution required buy-in from nine companies operating in completely different industries, with seven CIOs finally signing off on the solution presented. A global team was put in place to deliver against disparate requirements.
The biggest challenge was coordinating a solution that met all stakeholder needs within defined budget and timeframe constraints. The business outcome saved the client millions of dollars per annum in operating expenditure, whilst bringing the latest infrastructure and technologies to bear to improve the overall productivity of the group of companies significantly.
An essential key to innovative thinking? And why?
Innovative thinking is best prompted by striving to exceed client expectations. This requires cultural latitude, which respects the need for time to think differently and a right to make mistakes sometimes.
If the goal in mind is to make your client “look good”, then it is amazing how even the smallest of ideas sometimes provide huge benefits to them.
The most important lesson you learnt early in your career.
Positive persistence. Breakthroughs come by constantly challenging the status quo through positive and continued endeavour. Never give up.
Where do you see the Communications and Utilities industry over the next five years?
Whilst massive strides have been made to improve access to telecommunications, energy and water services to all of humanity in recent years, the world still remains behind target in providing basic access to those who need it most.
We are also strongly challenged to find sustainable solutions that will stand the test of continued population and economic growth. I see a massive role for Aurecon to play in helping clients overcome the challenges of today so that in five years’ time millions more people will have better, cheaper, and more sustainable access to services which are fundamental to their lives.
I enjoy the fact that the solutions Aurecon provides help our clients foster human achievement. Our solutions and offerings provide our clients with what they need to make the world a better place.
