Aurecon’s Regional Director for the Middle East Ermis Marques won the Executive of the Year (Male) award at the Middle East Consultant Awards 2017
12 December 2017 - The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is well-known for its extraordinary construction projects, which attracts the world’s best minds to flock here, to imagine and to build. To be singled out in such a competitive environment of outstanding work is an honour that global engineering and infrastructure advisory company, Aurecon is familiar with after achieving three top regional Awards in 2017:
MEP Middle East Awards 2017
Winner: GCC Project of the Year – MOTIONGATE™ Dubai
Middle East Consultant Awards 2017
“We are thrilled to receive this level of recognition and I congratulate our team for their industry-leading innovation. These Awards are the result of strong, collaborative partnerships with our clients, contractors, and partners and we celebrate our successes with them,” says Ermis Marques, Regional Director – Middle East, Aurecon.
Wouter Brand, Aurecon’s Project Director for the Hospitality Project of the Year, Jumeirah Al Naseem, commented, “The Jumeirah Al Naseem resort project was a fantastic team effort and the quality of this superb hotel would not have been possible without a world-class team. We share in this success and congratulate our partners of Jumeriah Group, H&H Development, Mirage Leisure and Development, MLC, CKR, Woods Bagot and Northpoint Architects.”
Judges for the Construction Week Awards described the Jumeirah Al Naseem resort project as an “immensely complicated development to deliver successfully”, and were impressed with Aurecon’s ability to construct effectively within a challenging natural environment, which included geotechnical and marine-related complexities.
Designed in partnership with global architecture firm, Gensler, Aurecon’s work on MOTIONGATE™ Dubai theme park project was recognised as GCC Project of the Year 2017 by MEP Middle East magazine for its innovative mechanical, electrical and plumbing solutions that enabled visitors to be fully immersed in the Hollywood-themed experience.
“We share the commendation for this project with both Gensler and Dubai Parks and Resorts and thank them for sharing this incredible roller-coaster journey with us,” added Marques.
“GCC clients are seeking the unconventional, never-been-done, and one-of-a-kind project. For the wider project team of designers, builders and suppliers, this often means pushing the boundaries of our collective experience and even challenging the laws of physics. To bring the client’s idea to life requires strong collaboration – there are no winners in a failed project,” explains Marques.
The company’s strong collaborative behaviour also meant that Aurecon’s top design directors and experts are easily accessible for consultation and project work. Hence the company is able to harness its top experts from around the world to support its highly experienced local team on GCC projects, including the two that clinched top spots in this year’s Awards season: Jumeirah Al Naseem resort and MOTIONGATE™ Dubai.
With a strong portfolio of iconic and complex engineering projects under construction in the GCC, Aurecon looks forward to bringing their clients’ boldest ideas to life over the next few years.
