18 September 2013 - Aurecon’s David Barnes, Head of Business Development for Government and Defence and Peter Jones, Aurecon’s Leader for Business and Infrastructure Advisory, will share their insights on enhancing the engagement and driving innovation between Defence and industry at the 2nd Annual Defence Support Services Summit.
Aurecon has reconfirmed its gold sponsorship at this year’s conference, taking place in Canberra on 19 September 2013. David Barnes, who was invited to act as Chairperson for this key Defence industry event, will facilitate the day’s proceedings as the conference aims to showcase successful partnerships and discuss the immediate challenges faced in servicing a modern defence force.
“Facing two major challenges of budget austerity and an ageing estate, Defence is looking to get more value for money. The budget is getting tighter and I think it’s here for the long term,” David predicted in 2012.
“Defence needs to prioritise what it will spend money on and when it will spend it. Taking a ‘first principals’ technical look at assets and how they are managed is critical to making better use of Defence’s available funding,” said David.
Peter Jones’ presentation on “Project financing in a public sector environment” will focus on
“Our team’s ability to provide robust and practical advice on how to deliver private financing of major infrastructure projects is strengthened by Aurecon’s depth of business and technical consulting experience across engineering, design and project management,” said Peter.
“We see measurable benefits for Defence by bringing a new approach to whole of life asset management in the capability and infrastructure spaces. We know Defence is engaging with industry to use asset management techniques to reduce the total cost of ownership of key assets and capabilities, and our skillset adds real value to a key client such as Defence,” added David.
The Defence Support Services Summit enables industry to engage fully with the Defence Support Group on current and future collaborative partnerships. Aurecon has more than 50 years’ experience working with Defence, particularly in the planning and delivery of major capital facilities.
