The bi – annual event will be held in Auckland, New Zealand, and will focus on the theme of ‘Touching the Earth Lightly’.
Chaired by LSAA President and our Building Structures Leader, Dr Kourosh Kayvani, Aurecon’s Peter Murenu and Stephen Hogg will present papers on our recent and ongoing project work in Melbourne and Christchurch.
A broad range of interdisciplinary speakers from Australia and New Zealand will explore the sustainability advantages of lightweight structures for engineers, architects and developers; the most efficient uses of materials and resources, and the application of ‘building better and living lightly’ thinking to future lightweight structure projects.
Dr Kayvani said: “Lightweight structures are both an economic necessity for spanning long distances and a wonderful opportunity to create exciting architectural forms in buildings and bridges.
Whether it is in the design of the cable-stayed roof of Wembley Stadium, the diagrid shell roof of Adelaide Oval, or the tensile membrane forms we are currently exploring on some of our projects, we have the required mindset and skillset to collaborate with our architectural colleagues to create beautiful yet economical and safely buildable lightweight structures.”
