Renewables experts to present on latest trends, technology at NZ wind conference

21 March 2013 - Peter Armstrong, an expert in renewable energy who will be one of three speakers from Aurecon at the New Zealand Wind Energy Conference this month, says that there are several core principles which he believes are becoming best practice for specifying wind turbines for project design.

“Wind turbine size and technology trends are a major consideration for developers, particularly in the context of defining consent limits which will stand the test of time for wind farms in New Zealand,” says Peter.

At the conference, Peter will present Aurecon's research on turbine size and technology trends, and will discuss the factors influencing these trends.

Simon Faulkner (Senior Mechanical Engineer) and David Wahl (Mechanical Engineer) will also be presenting at the conference, which will be held in Wellington from 20-22 March 2013.

Simon will be sharing his analysis of shadow flicker guidelines for wind farm design and their environmental effects.

David will be presenting best-practice modelling methods to represent the effect of forested areas on the flow of the wind, and will discuss the uncertainties associated with these methods. 

The conference will focus on exploring the opportunities and challenges for growing wind generation to 20 per cent of New Zealand's electricity generation by 2030.

David Wahl is a renewables engineer at Aurecon with more than 8 years of experience in the wind industry. He provides advisory and engineering support for clients developing wind farm sites in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and around the world. After starting his career in the USA as a test engineer on prototype wind turbines, David later provided engineering support for wind turbine sales with specialisation in site specific loads assessments and power performance testing.
