07 March  2012 - The digital age is changing the way we communicate and conduct business. Increasing pressures are being placed on data and telecommunication infrastructure to deliver large quantities of data and communications more quickly and economically.

“In South Africa, Aurecon is working closely with stakeholders to deliver major data and telecommunication infrastructure projects, providing solutions to meet this challenge,” comments Shannon Ramsarup, Aurecon’s Business Development Manager, Data & Telecommunications.

In line with this, Aurecon has signed a Joint Venture (JV) agreement which will see them partner with PHbagale Inc to deliver professional services related to the planning, design and supervision of fibre optic related projects. “Working in partnership with PHbagale, we will together provide the very best skills and expertise to our clients,” comments Shannon.

He goes on to say that the JV has been appointed to undertake route planning, quality assessment and civil engineering services associated with the country-wide roll out of a fibre optic network which will help to ensure the current cap on data consumption in South Africa is increased. Further services that Aurecon will be able to offer the industry will include environmental and occupational health and safety compliance and accredited training.

“Fibre optic cabling is critical to ensuring increased internet bandwidth and faster connectivity," explains Ramsarup. "Installing fibre optic networks in more areas throughout South Africa will ensure customers are able to access a wider range of services, such as voice, video and networked storage and hosting, and will ensure that multiple stakeholders across the entire Data & Telecommunications value chain benefit, including local construction companies and mobile network operators.”
