21 December 2012 - Aurecon is pleased to confirm it is donating consulting engineering advice to the Youngcare Charity that provides dignified support to young people that are in need of full-time care. The Charity aims to provide specially designed housing for young people residing in aged care facilities.
The Youngcare Apartments Sydney will be Youngcare’s third housing project to date, following successful developments in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast. It is a AUD3.2 million initiative that promises to impact the lives of young people with high care needs across Australia by demonstrating real solutions to challenging problems.
Rob Hugall, Technical Director Buildings said: “The project is about creating a best practice model of care so that young people can get the medical, social, and lifestyle support they truly need. The building design caters to the physical and medical needs of young people in a dignified and age-appropriate way; a building that feels like home – not a medical facility or institution.”
The Youngcare Apartments Sydney will be achieved with the support of a leading team of experts including Griffith University, St Vincents and Mater Health, Cox Architecture and Lend Lease Constructions; partners that share Youngcare’s vision for a best practice housing model which can be adopted by others in the disability housing sector.
Construction of the Youngcare Apartments Sydney is due to commence in March 2013 and is scheduled for completion in December 2013, in Auburn, Sydney.
