19 December 2012 - Aurecon and its clients teamed up to ride in the Financial Review Corporate Cycling Challenge (FRCCC) held in Sydney, Perth and Melbourne during October and November 2012.
The FRCCC is the only event of its kind offering amateur cyclists the opportunity to compete with and against professional athletes.
“The training sessions and getting to meet a few of you before race day really helped to build up the anticipation and it was great to feel like a pro for the day, even if I had to clean my own bike when I got home,” said Richard Hart, an Associate from Woodhead.
At each event teams of 10 cyclists raced against the clock in a time trial format along a 12-14km circuit. The five fastest riders to complete the circuit determined each team’s result.
The best amateur riders from Aurecon’s teams took part in an elite team time trial event with professional Tour cyclists Michael Matthews (Orica GreenEDGE), Luke Durbridge (Orica GreenEDGE) and Richie Porte (Team Sky).
“It was a real thrill to be involved in an event with these Pro Tour cyclists who we all admire. The FRCCC was a fantastic way for Aurecon to strengthen our relationships with our clients, many of whom are also keen cyclists,” said Bill Glasgow, Melbourne Delivery Centre Manager.
Aurecon was a gold sponsor of the event and had a strong presence, fielding 16 teams - the most of any organisation involved.
“The FRCCC forms a key part of our staff and client engagement programme and is a unique event for the business community to participate in. It reinforces Aurecon’s commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and ties in with our work on sustainable transport projects,” said CEO Paul Hardy.
Aurecon raised over AUD3 500 for the FRCCC’s chosen charities, The Mirabel Foundation and Reclink Australia.
