13 October 2011 - The Financial Review Corporate Cycling Challenge is the first cycling event of its kind to be held in Australia and as Gold Sponsor of the inaugural event Aurecon is ready for the challenge.
Bill Glasgow, Aurecon’s Melbourne Office Manager said: “This event reinforces Aurecon’s commitment to the ongoing sustainability challenge and promoting a healthy lifestyle. As an organisation, we are actively involved in delivering sustainable and innovative solutions to communities, and this includes the promotion and encouragement of cycling as a healthy, safe, enjoyable and sustainable transport, both now and in the future.”
The event will be held on 4 December 2011 in Geelong, Victoria. Approximately 250 corporate teams of 8-10 riders will participate in a 15 km race to compete for the Corporate Cycling Challenge. Racing against the clock, the format is based on stage two of le Tour de France – the team time trial event, and riding enthusiasts will recognise the course as the location of the 2010 UCI Road Cycling World Championships.
The event offers corporate teams the opportunity to compete with and against Australia’s Tour de France stars – the GreenEdge cycling team - and other elite sporting talent including Australian Football League legends Shane Crawford and Chris Judd.
As Gold Sponsor, Aurecon staff and clients will race together exclusively with one of the event’s elite riders.
As part of the official launch on 14 October, five cycling enthusiasts from Aurecon will participate in a team spin cycling charity event at Federation Square, Melbourne. Chris Dodds, the winner of Aurecon’s internal competition will be competing against former professional Australian track racing cyclist, Shane Kelly.
As an employer, Aurecon’s commitment to cycling extends to our support and participation in events such as Around the Bay, Ride to Work, Tour Down Under and now the inaugural Financial Review Corporate Cycling Challenge.
Chris Dodds, Civil Engineer, Transport said: “I’m really looking forward to competing against Olympic great, Shane Kelly and raising money for charity. This is a great opportunity for me to be involved in a corporate sponsorship that fosters health and exercise whilst having fun. Aurecon has always been a strong supporter of sustainability and healthy lifestyles.”
