Aurecon signs agreement with LILAMA

Vietnam Machinery Erection Corporation (LILAMA)

18 May 2010 - Aurecon and Vietnam Machinery Erection Corporation (LILAMA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate on a number of projects across Vietnam, Indochina, the Middle East and Africa.

These projects will focus initially on the construction of coal-fired power plants, although work for a range of sectors is expected to flow as a result of this agreement.

LILAMA, a state owned enterprise, originally focused its efforts on restoring Vietnam’s national industry after the war, with work on the Thac Bac hydropower plant, Ninh Binh and the Uong Bi thermal power plants. With over 40 000 staff across the Group, LILAMA has developed a strong reputation due to the company’s capabilities in manufacturing and installation of heavy equipment, and its position as Vietnam’s only EPC contractor in coal fired power generation.

Paul Hardy, Global CEO of Aurecon said: “This Memorandum of Understanding formalises our relationship with LILAMA and helps us to enhance our ability to win new work in the region as well as allowing us to develop and market the Aurecon brand to a wider community.”

The signing was attended by Mr. Pham Hung CEO of LILAMA Corporation, as well Mr Nguyen Gia Du, Chairman of Vinaincon (an EPC contractor for industrial construction under the Ministry of Industry and Trade) and Mr Nguyen Tran Lang, General Director of Van Lang Architects. Con Feltrin, Quang Nguyen and Bill Glasgow, from Aurecon also attended the signing.

Aurecon will be assisting LILAMA and its subsidiary companies in the role of EPC contractor's engineer for a number of coal fired power plants including the new Quang Trach 2x600MW, and cement plants including the Phu Son cement plant. Mr Pham Hung has also asked Aurecon to work on the M&E and façade design of LILAMA’s new headquarters in Hanoi. Through the cooperation with Mr Du and Mr Lang, Aurecon will be involved in transmission and urban planning projects.

Previous projects that LILAMA has undertaken include Hoa Binh and Tri An hydropower plants, the Bim Son and Kien Luong cement plants and the 500kV North–South Transmission Line and associated Substations.

Recently, LILAMA was appointed EPC contractor for the Uong Bi 300 MW thermal power plant, Camau 720 MW combined cycle power plant and packages 2 and 3 of the Dung Quat oil refinery, from 2000 onwards. These projects have made them the first Vietnamese EPC contractor and this position has been consolidated with their winning EPC bid for the Dung Quat oil refinery - a contract worth in excess of 230 million US dollars. LILAMA is currently EPC contractor for a number of projects including the country’s first 2x600MW coal fired power plant project.
