Aurecon completed the structural engineering design for Zevenwacht Mall in Kuilsrivier, Western Cape.
In order to ensure its economic viability, the mall’s structural framework had to be designed differently from that of a conventional brick facade. In this regard, Aurecon applied a ‘dual purpose’ construction approach which saw certain elements of the shopping centre take on multiple functions. Accordingly, the external structure was designed to act as a façade element as well as provide support for the roof structure. In addition, the tilt-up panels were cast with the external surface face down in order to incorporate architectural features into the façade.
The completed mall provides a robust, cost effective structure which accommodated our client’s brief. Aurecon successfully identified alternative construction solutions which proved to be very successful and economical, in addition to achieving a superior final product.
