The first Costco warehouse built in Australia required its US-based design to be certified to Australian Standards.
Aurecon acted as the local structural engineer from concept design through to detailed design and construction.
Aurecon provided assistance and design advice to the local architect and liaised with the design engineers based in the US. Construction assistance was provided to the managing contractor for all structural aspects of the project. This involved regular site meetings, periodical site inspections, as well as responding to site queries and RFIs.
The project was fast tracked to be completed within 10 months, from design to construction and opening day. Aurecon’s deliverables were of a high standard and were provided in a timely manner to ensure the ambitious programme was achieved.
Aurecon was engaged separately by BlueScope Buildings for the complete design of the main entrance feature canopy. Several structural framing options were provided to support the canopy, using an iterative process to identify the most cost-effective design solution, while also allowing the architects to maintain aesthetic appeal.
Aurecon, through its commitment and dedication to this project, played a key role in the successful delivery of the first Costco warehouse on Australian soil.
