Aurecon’s project management and learning consultancy working in international aid and development, was engaged to prepare a design for the Mongolia Third Education Project.
The project was part of an Asian Development Bank funded technical assistance mission and was to align with the Education Sector Strategy (2000-05) and the Mongolia Millennium Development Goal targets.
The project was undertaken to improve access to, and enhance the quality of education services for Mongolian children, and to increase training opportunities for youths and adults.
A key challenge was to identify solutions and interventions to strengthen provisions for distance education, information communication technology for remote schools, and capacity development of teachers.
Aurecon adopted a sector-wide approach to coordinate government and externally supported activities in the education sector. The project addressed priority needs in basic and teacher education, and reviewed the scope for consolidating the technical and vocational education training system.
