Having assisted in the crisis response following earthquakes in 2011, Aurecon is closely involved in several initiatives to rebuild Christchurch. The aim of all reconstruction efforts is very much about the people as well as the built environment, allowing for the creation of places and infrastructure that help rebuild the resilience of the community. The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) is a new government department overseeing the rebuild of Canterbury. Aurecon staff is seconded to CERA in key advisory roles.
Aurecon is also part of the Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (SCIRT), tasked with the rebuild of infrastructure such as roads, pipes, sewerage and retaining walls. Aurecon teams are also providing vital reconstruction services for ongoing demolition and geotechnical work, and developing options for energy, light rail and land development opportunities including project management, urban design, geographic information systems, water and civil engineering, planning, spatial surveying, ground engineering and legal surveying.
