Aurecon, in association with Bovis Lend Lease (BLL), provided design, documentation and construction phase services for three of the four components of the Millennium Arts Project. This included the electrical, electronics, fire protection and hydraulics engineering for the State Library of Queensland redevelopment, associated site infrastructure works and the Queensland Art Gallery Entrance.
The State Library of Queensland redevelopment included a new auditorium, indigenous knowledge centre, indemnified gallery and other high-tech, completely refurbished and expanded facilities. The primary focus and innovation of engineering services for this particular project was to provide well-concealed building services solutions, which are sympathetic with a relaxed architectural style. Maximum reuse of existing building infrastructure resulted in substantial cost and sustainability benefits for the client.
The site infrastructure works included a public plaza, new roads and pathways, expansion of the central energy plant and other infrastructure services. This involved establishing and enhancing existing central energy plant services to provide critical features for new and modified building elements within the precinct. Aurecon successfully maintained critical services for the remainder of the existing buildings on site simultaneously.
The Queensland Art Gallery entrance included a striking curved glass entry feature, expanded staff facilities, workshop, retail, cloak room and function spaces.
