The Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital brought together the specialist paediatric services of three of the state’s leading children’s facilities, the Royal Children’s Hospital, the Mater Children’s Hospital and the Queensland Paediatric Cardiac Service at The Prince Charles Hospital, into a single state-of-the-art facility.
The new hospital design comprises 359 public beds, 12 clinical levels and more than 80 000m2 of clinical floor space.
The new hospital is now the hub of a state-wide paediatric network and the leading specialist paediatric and adolescent health care facility in Queensland. In addition, it acts as the central hub for a state-wide network of children’s health services.
The programme included relocation of an existing Leukaemia Foundation facility to a preferred site located between the Princess Alexandra and Mater Hospitals, construction of an academic and research facility, supporting research into paediatric healthcare, and construction of a tri-generation energy plant to provide power, heating and cooling for all buildings within the precinct.
Aurecon’s primary role was that of project manager for the briefing, planning, design, construction and commissioning phases of the project so that the objectives of scope, time, cost and quality were achieved.
Our group also provided a number of important advisory services in relation to business case development, facilities management and project direction.
The programme of work was delivered utilising a number of traditional procurement systems including lump sum, construction management, design and construct and managing contractor. The Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital was opened in November 2014.
