Aurecon in LibyaLibya is an independent republic in North Africa with an economy primarily dependent on oil sector revenue, including crude oil, petroleum products and natural gas. Bordering the Mediterranean Sea to the north, Libya lies between Egypt to the east, Sudan to the southeast, Chad and Niger to the south, and Algeria and Tunisia to the west.

With an area of almost 1,800,000km2 (694,984mi2), Libya is the fourth largest country in Africa by area and has a relatively low population of 5.7 million people.

Aurecon’s involvement in Libya dates back to 2000 and includes engineering work across the water, energy and transport markets. We have an established partnership with a local firm that has an extensive network and links to authorities and other state and private institutions in Libya. Their local knowledge and experience complements Aurecon’s vast global expertise, providing a multi-skilled and talented pool of professionals.

Services which we have provided to date in Libya include master planning, scoping studies on infrastructure projects, building planning and design, project management, administration and quality assurance for transmission lines and substations, detailed construction supervision and progress monitoring, technical assistance and support to government departments and utilities.

Our projects in Libya include fulfilling the role of infrastructure engineering planner for the Zuwara Abu Kamash Development Zone, a 400km2 site near the Tunisian border; detailed design for the Wadi Wishka Dam project; and construction management for 220kV transmission lines and 220kV GIS substations for GECOL, the electricity company of Libya.
