Aurecon in LesothoA small, mountainous and landlocked country, Lesotho’s economy is based on subsistence farming, mining and manufacturing industries that include textiles, clothing and footwear.

With high population growth and increasing industrial and agricultural development within southern African countries, the demand for water is increasing. Through the ongoing Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP), Lesotho is able to generate income by supplying water to South Africa, as well as by generating its own hydroelectric power.

Aurecon’s presence in Lesotho dates back to the 1950's, while our office was established in January 1989. Our Lesotho office is  involved in consultancy assignments that include water supply engineering, environmental impact assessments and management plans, sanitation engineering, roads and bridges, structural and building services engineering.

Our projects in Lesotho include the Road Management System for the Regional Trunk Road Network; feasibility studies, design, tender documentation and supervision of several roads and bridges; feasibility study into the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) for Lesotho and South Africa; and programme management, construction supervision and environmental management services for the MCA - Lesotho health programme, including the renovation and expansion of 138 health clinics, 14 outpatient departments, a central laboratory, blood transfusion centre, and a health college residence.
