Mike is a civil engineer specialising in intelligent transport systems (ITS), traffic engineering, transportation planning, public transport, road safety and project management. He has been involved in all types of ITS, traffic, transportation and road safety projects predominantly in South Africa. He has also worked on projects in Botswana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Lesotho, Malawi, Nigeria, Senegal and Zambia, as well as the United Kingdom (UK) when resident there.
His project experience ranges from transportation reviews and policy development for national governments to local traffic impact assessments for private developers. Since 2005 he has focused predominantly on ITS and travel demand management (TDM) projects both in Africa and more recently in the Middle East.
With his extensive experience in ITS, road safety and transportation Mike currently project manages several large ITS, transportation planning and infrastructure projects in KwaZulu-Natal. He is also the immediate Past President of ITS South Africa.
Mike holds a BSc in civil engineering which he obtained from the University of Natal (South Africa) in 1984. He is registered as a professional engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and is also a member of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE).
