Mandela Day 2016

Events across Aurecon offices globally for Mandela Day 2016

A wide range of other events arranged by Limelight, Aurecon’s young professionals forum, took place involving Aurecon staff at our offices globally.

Auckland, New Zealand

In Auckland, staff raised NZD308 for the Auckland City Mission to fund rehabilitation programmes by hosting a bake sale for Mandela Day.

Darwin, Australia

The Darwin Limelight committee chose to support Operation Christmas Child for Mandela Day. Operation Christmas Child is a project to distribute Christmas presents consisting of decorated shoe boxes filled with gifts to children in need throughout Southeast Asia and the South Pacific, thereby letting them know that they are loved and not forgotten.

Bangkok, Thailand

In Bangkok, the Limelight committee collected used books and clothing to donate to people in need. They also encouraged staff to download the “Be My Eyes” App to provide help and support for blind people.

Polokwane, South Africa

Our Polokwane office visited the Shalate Orphanage and Drop-In Centre for young mothers, in Seshego, Limpopo. Staff donated much needed stationery and food packs to learners, and spent the day helping at the centre.

Port Elizabeth, South Africa

Staff in Port Elizabeth spent their 67 minutes at Lower Walmer Primary. They donated netball and soccer equipment and spent the morning playing these sports with the learners. In addition, a recycling initiative has been set up in the office where all funds received from recycling is donated to the school.

Sydney, Australia

This year, the Sydney Limelight committee decided to focus on food security. They raised a AUD453 for OzHarvest; the equivalent of 906 meals for people in need.

Tshwane, South Africa

Tshwane office staff spent time at African Blessings, Tshwane Home of Hope and the Mamelodi West Clinic.

  • At African Blessings, a non-profit organisation and public benefit organisation in Rustfontein, Bronkhorstspruit, staff assisted with planting 200 vegetable seedlings in the organisation’s garden.
  • Tshwane Home of Hope is a safe home for young girls who have been orphaned or come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Aurecon staff fulfilled some of the immediate needs of the home and gave motivational talks to the girls.
  • At the Mamelodi West Clinic we provided food to around 100 mothers and children from poorest of the community in Mamelodi waiting to be assisted at the clinic.

Wellington, New Zealand

Limelight Wellington went to the local zoo to volunteer their time for the day to improve access for zoo keepers to the Wallaby enclosure in winter which gets muddy and slippery.
