23 September 2016 - Rowenna Walker has been appointed Global Service Leader, Rail and Mass Transit at the global engineering and advisory company, Aurecon.

The role will be focussed on leading a global team of rail and mass transit specialists to deliver smart, efficient and future-proofed rail solutions across passenger and metro networks, light rail and freight and heavy haul rail.

“I am delighted to welcome Rowenna to continue to drive Aurecon’s significant rail business,” said Geoff Linke, Aurecon’s Managing Director, Infrastructure. “Governments around the globe are increasingly focused on the effective integration of economic policy, investment and infrastructure. We believe this requires leaders in the rail and freight industry who are innovative problem finders and problem solvers. Rowenna brings an abundance of these qualities, as well as a reputation for understanding shifts in the sector and client needs.”

“With Rowenna at the helm, Aurecon is well positioned to drive rail strategy that is integrated and reflects a holistic approach catering for population growth and creating more productive, accessible and liveable future cities,” said Geoff.

Previously the Executive Director of Sales in the rail sector (Asia Pacific) at Jacobs, Rowenna has held senior leadership roles throughout her career at companies such as SKM, RailCorp and Network Rail (UK).

With over 20 years’ international experience, including as a member of regional executive teams, Rowenna has realised significant success in developing and executing growth strategies for engineering businesses. Some recent projects Rowenna has had an executive leadership role in are Australia’s Australian Rail Track Corporation Inland Rail Project and Transport for New South Wales’ Sydney Light Rail, as well as work in the UK, Hong Kong and New Zealand.

“I was drawn to Aurecon’s vision for the future, as well as their proven reputation and track record in the rail sector with projects such as Melbourne Metro Rail, Auckland City Rail Link, multiple projects as part of the Novo Rail Alliance, the current Melbourne Level Crossing Removals, and the recently completed Moreton Bay Rail Link,” said Rowenna.

Aurecon’s spokesperson on Women in Leadership, Regional Director Louise Adams, welcomes Rowenna’s appointment, noting her passion and track record for promoting diversity and inclusion in the rail and engineering industries.

“It’s exciting to welcome someone of Rowenna’s calibre to Aurecon and in so doing to also expand the ranks of our senior female leaders,” said Louise.

“Aurecon believes that as a profession we have a responsibility for making engineering more attractive to females. Role models such as Rowenna are critical to achieving this and the work she does in our industry to mentor young women is making a real difference.”

Rowenna has joined Aurecon this month and will be based in Sydney, Australia.
