09 July 2015 - The wins are the latest in a stellar year of industry awards for Aurecon’s Built Environment market.

The award wins include recognition as one of the top five building services and structural engineers in the world by the UK-based Building Design’s prestigious World Architecture 100 (WA100) global ranking of ‘Best partners’, as voted by leading global architects.

The Melbourne School of Design and Margaret Court Arena won top category honours at the Australian Institute of Architects Victoria Chapter awards held Friday 26 June. At the South Australian Chapter awards, the Adelaide Oval Redevelopment and the River Torrens Riverbank Footbridge were applauded last Friday 3 July.

In June, Sydney’s Liberty Place, also known as 161 Castlereagh Street, was honoured in the United States by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design as the most outstanding international architecture project in 2015.

“Although each varies greatly in design and delivery, at the heart of these fantastic, award-winning projects is collaboration. Creative, clever and communicative collaboration between the client, the architects and the engineers are what make near impossible ideas come to life,” commented Peter Turner, Aurecon’s Built Environment Market Director, Australia and New Zealand.

Liberty Place wins international design award

Liberty Place, located at 161 Castlereagh Street, Sydney, has received the prestigious Chicago Athenaeum International Architecture Award.

Home to ANZ and Freehills in the heart of Sydney’s bustling CBD, Liberty Place triumphed in a strong competition field that included projects from Austria, Brazil, Great Britain, France, Denmark, Spain, the United States and many other countries.

Contractor and Aurecon client, Grocon, engaged Aurecon's Sydney Buildings team to provide structural and civil design expertise in 2010 with the vision of creating the tallest office tower in Sydney featuring a side core. Grocon challenged the team to create elegant structural engineering for a contemporary high rise building that allowed for flexible usage and accommodation types.

Architect project partners, Frances-Jones Morehen Thorp, created the tower’s iconic rooftop feature that dramatically captures and breaks the light. Complementing its striking facade, Liberty Place has achieved a 6-Star Green Star (Office v3 Design) rating merited by the Green Building Council of Australia.

The tower also features a retail and dining precinct, public open spaces, a sunlit plaza and pedestrian lane way connecting Castlereagh Street and Pitt Street, inviting the liveliness of the city into the development.

Congratulations to our architect partners Frances-Jones Morehen Thorp.
