02 October 2014 - This year’s awards season is off to a flying start with Aurecon among the top winners in Engineers Australia Excellence awards in Queensland, the Northern Territory and South Australia.

Engineers Australia Northern Division Excellence Awards

Aurecon, together with the Power and Water Corporation, won the People’s Choice Award for ‘future proofing’ Katherine's electrical transmission and electrical generation infrastructure. This involved the delivery of a robust supply system, including new and additional equipment, designed to meet the needs of the Katherine community over the next 20 plus years.

‘The team appreciated the votes it received for the People’s Choice Award, which saw the Katherine project receive three times the number of votes as any other project,’ said Carolyn Yates, Aurecon’s project director for the upgrade.

The project addressed many issues facing the supply system, which included increasing unreliability of critical infrastructure, complicated by demand growth outstripping the available generation capacity.

Engineers Australia South Australia Excellence Awards

• Adelaide Oval Redevelopment

The Adelaide Oval Redevelopment received the Malcolm Kinnaird Engineering Excellence Award and the South Australia Division’s Engineering Excellence Award - the highest awards conferred at the Engineer’s Australia South Australia Engineering Excellence Awards.

Aurecon provided building services expertise on the refurbishment of the Adelaide Oval, which transformed the well-used venue into a 53 500 seat stadium.  Aurecon’s services included electrical, fire and hydraulic infrastructure; extensive communications and outside broadcast infrastructure; specialist lighting; and escalators and lifts to support large scale people and goods movement.

Engineers from Aurecon, Arup, Walbridge and Gilbert and AECOM were able to overcome the constraints of working in a site with environmental, historical and space issues by combining civil, structural, electrical, systems and mechanical disciplines.
