13 November 2014 - Solar development company FRV Services Australia has appointed Aurecon as owner’s engineer and technical advisor for the AUD164 million 56MWac Moree Solar Farm in northern New South Wales.

“The Moree Solar Farm is an opportunity to positively contribute to the country’s power industry by leading the way for large scale projects and creating local jobs,” FRV Australian Country Manager Andrea Fontana said.

The solar farm is expected to generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 15 000 average homes and deliver more than 100 jobs for the local community during construction.

“Aurecon is excited about working with FRV on another large scale solar project having recently assisted them with the construction of the Royalla Solar Farm development in the Australian Capital Territory,” Aurecon Renewables Associate Peter Ward said.

“This engagement recognises Aurecon’s proven technical experience in assisting clients to deliver large-scale solar projects. The technical role during construction of the project draws on Aurecon’s extensive engineering capabilities in the power industry as well as its expertise in the renewables industry”, he said.

Funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) the project will contribute to meeting Australia’s Renewable Energy Target of 41 000 GWh/a by 2020.

The solar panels will utilise a single-axis solar tracking system to follow the sun’s path during the day so as to maximise the energy output from the panels.

Construction is expected to start in November 2014 and commissioning and testing is expected to be completed in 2016.
