03 February 2014 - Global projects company Aurecon, will be the official safety awareness sponsor at the twentieth Investing in African Mining Indaba.

The conference, which is the world’s largest gathering of mining’s most influential stakeholders and decision-makers vested in African mining, will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, South Africa, from 3-6 February 2014.

Garth Higgo, Industry Director, Mining, at Aurecon says: “We undertake safe, certain delivery, with our commitment to Health & Safety embodied by the straight forward goal of zero harm. We believe every incident and injury is preventable. From our CEO through to individual employees working on site, we drive continuous improvement in our health and safety management system.”

Social licence to operate, creating sustainable mining operations and increasing project value beyond the consideration of financial objectives alone are among the key industry challenges in the global mining industry.

Aurecon contributes towards overcoming industry challenges and increasing sustainable growth through partnerships with clients.

Mark Berger, Africa and Middle East Technical Director and Resources Industry Leader notes: “We are committed to working with our mining clients to identify and develop initiatives that enable them to join forces with governments and communities to deliver sustainable economic growth in a particular region, country and community, as well as identifying and realising business value for shareholders, employees and stakeholders.”

Aurecon creates value for our clients by making a real difference in the communities in which we work. We achieve this by using the six capitals model for sustainable growth, promoted by the International Integrated Reporting Council, which includes financial, manufactured or physical, intellectual, human, social and natural capital. A holistic approach to mine development considers all six capitals in assessing the best possible approach to the project.

“We believe there is immense value to be unlocked through a holistic focus on deriving value through a capitals-based sustainability approach,” Garth adds.

Aurecon provides global expertise in engineering studies through to full bankable feasibility study (BFS), procurement and construction management, and whole of life asset management and operations of mining projects, including: mine process; mine site infrastructure; heavy haul rail and bulk materials handling; sustainable development and licence to operate.

As the largest multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy in South Africa, Aurecon has 12 large offices across the continent. Through its work over the past 30 years the Company has gained a strong understanding of the complex nature of developing the continent’s mining resources.
