16 October 2013 - Aurecon is back for its third year as a Gold sponsor of the Financial Review Corporate Cycling Challenge (FRCCC) taking place in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth in November and December.

New for 2013, Aurecon has signed on as the King of the Mountain sponsor for the events in Melbourne and Perth.

“Aurecon is committed to creating a vibrant and brighter future for all and we deliver on this promise through our involvement in initiatives like the FRCCC that promote healthy lifestyles and sustainable transport,” said Paul Thorstenson, Chief Administration Officer.

The event challenges colleagues and clients to healthy competition and provides the opportunity to ride with professional cyclists - a highlight for everyone involved.

Commenting on his experience at last year’s FRCCC, Chris Watts, Senior Environmental Scientist in Aurecon’s Resources and Manufacturing group said, “I enjoyed mingling with professional cyclists like Nathan Haas and Koen de Kort.”

The World Tour cyclists enjoy the event too. Australian professional cyclist and Garmin-Sharp rider Nathan Haas who will be competing again in this year’s event said “I love doing the CCC during my break back in Australia and I’m excited to meet everybody that’s part of it and share everything I’ve been learning over here.”

Nathan Haas joins the Aurecon team for the event in Perth.

Australian professional cyclist and Team Sky rider Richie Porte once again joins Aurecon’s Melbourne team and will this year be joining the team in Sydney. Richie joined Team Sky in 2012, assisting Sir Bradley Wiggins in his Tour de France Victory and Chris Froome in 2013. Richie won two stages and the overall classification in the 2013 Paris-Nice.

There are some exciting changes for the 2013 event as we combine two of the greatest challenges of road racing – the Team Time Trial and the King of the Mountain. The King of the Mountain challenge will take place in Melbourne and Perth and the Team Time Trial challenge in Sydney.

To prepare for the race Aurecon is hosting training rides and other activities for our staff and clients who will be participating.

“Developing strong relationships with our clients is at the heart of our business and this event allows us to build a ‘team’ with our valued clients both on and off the race course”, added Paul Thorstenson.

The FRCCC supports Bikes for Humanity, a charity which recycles and buys bikes for communities in need to increase access to education, employment and health care through improved mobility and self-empowerment.
