Saigon’s Children Charity celebrates opening of new kindergartens

13 June 2013 - Saigon’s Children Charity (SCC) celebrated the much anticipated opening of its Dai Truong kindergarten on 25 April, one of two SCC kindergartens in Vietnam’s Tra Vinh province in which Aurecon provided pro bono engineering services.

Tuyen Bui, project sponsor and Unit Manager for Buildings, Vietnam, said: “This is a fantastic project. It’s great that Aurecon is able to assist SCC through our engineering capacity. Given Tra Vinh’s proximity to the Cambodian border, many of the children who are to greatly benefit from the kindergartens will be Vietnamese-Cambodian.”

Working alongside major client Santos, Premier Oil and PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corp (PVEP), Aurecon provided building structures design services and construction site inspection for both projects.

The Dai Truong kindergarten features two classrooms including individual storage rooms for tables, chairs and classroom equipment. The kindergarten also has separate toilet facilities and a kitchen equipped to serve 55 day-boarding students as part of the school’s feeding programme – a key feature of the project.

The school also contains a new playground designed around local traditional games such as Mandarin Square Capturing, jumping or maze games around the colourful theme of the playground.

About SCC
Founded in 1992 by a British expatriate, SCC’s vision is to help disadvantaged Vietnamese children get an education and a fairer start in life. The SCC scope of work includes building schools in impoverish areas, running scholarship programmes and providing vocational training.

Today, the charity enjoys strong support from the local expatriate community, the local People Committee, Foreigner Consulate General Offices.

Tuyen adds: “This is the only Vietnamese charity project Aurecon is currently involved in. A key reason why we have chosen to support SCC is because of its non-political nature with no ties to the local government.”

In thanking Aurecon, Tran Vu Ngan Giang, Head of Programmes for SCC, wrote: “(SCC) send our huge thanks to everyone at Aurecon for your fantastic support during the past months. The buildings look very attractive and strong at completion!

“I am confident that you will be proud of what you and Aurecon have done for the children and community. Everyone loves the schools a lot!”
