7 November 2012 - The capacity expansion project at the Port of Melbourne is the biggest infrastructure project in Victoria and Aurecon has been appointed to undertake civil engineering on the AUD1.6 billion development.
Announced in April this year, the project will deliver certainty of capacity to the Port’s automotive and container business as well as establishing an ‘on-port’ Pre-delivery Inspection (PDI) Hub.
In announcing Aurecon’s appointment, Port of Melbourne Corporation Chief Executive, Stephen Bradford stated: “Aurecon has an excellent track record for designing and delivering large scale infrastructure with a focus on innovation and sustainability – their worldwide experience will help to create the innovative design outcomes we are seeking for Webb Dock.”
Aurecon’s Project Leader, Alex Gilbert said that the firm’s involvement at the Port of Melbourne will traverse the entire project schedule.
“We will be starting at master planning stage, continuing through preliminary and detailed design as well as providing support during construction."
Scheduled for completion in 2016, the project crystallises Port of Melbourne’s place as Australia’s largest container, automotive and general cargo port.
