Jeff Robinson 15 June 2012 - The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) has released Green Star – Communities, an independent, national rating tool which will drive more sustainable, productive and liveable communities.

Over the last two-and-a-half years, Aurecon has been working as a sponsor and technical reviewer with the GBCA, focussing on the launch of the Green Star – Communities PILOT rating tool.

“Aurecon is committed to ecologically sustainable development (ESD) principles across our business, and we had no hesitation in becoming a gold sponsor of the Green Star communities tool,” said Jeff Robinson, Development Leader, Property.

“To further support our sponsorship, we were pleased to work with the GBCA and other industry stakeholders as part of the technical working groups to develop the tool itself.”

Quentin JacksonIn parallel with the technical working groups’ contribution, Robinson was subsequently invited to join the integration committee for the Communities PILOT rating tool.

Aurecon’s Bruce Penman, Unit Manager Environment & Advisory Services in Brisbane and Quentin Jackson, Senior ESD Consultant and his team in Wellington, New Zealand evaluated over 50 community rating tools worldwide. From the initial list, the Aurecon team developed a short list of four tools which were used as a starting point to develop the Green Star Communities tool.

“The GBCA is to be congratulated the on the development of a world class community rating tool that will have a positive influence on the construction industry as it commits to creating sustainable and vibrant communities of the future, we look forward to using the tool as an intrinsic part of developing sustainable communities throughout Australia,” added Robinson

The GBCA is now seeking projects to test the Green Star – Communities PILOT rating tool, with the aim that businesses like Aurecon and our clients will work with them during the pilot phase of the project.
