31 March 2011 - Last week Daniel Chan, Aurecon’s Country Leader for Hong Kong, was awarded the prestigious Engineers Australia Medal by Engineers Australia (EA) Hong Kong Chapter, for his outstanding contribution to Engineers Australia over many years.

Daniel played a crucial role in the conception of Engineers Australia’s Hong Kong (HK) Chapter. He joined as a student member in 1977 and first put the idea of a Hong Kong Chapter forward in 1999. In January 2002 the Hong Kong Chapter was launched by then National President Dr Peter Greenwood and Daniel was elected as the Founding President.

HK Chapter President Chris Sparrow said: “Since 2002 the Chapter has grown from strength to strength and has consistently demonstrated its enthusiasm, effectiveness and commitment to servicing the members in Hong Kong. The success of EA in Hong Kong is due, in no small measure, to the contributions and commitment of Daniel Chan.”

Although currently not actively sitting on the Chapter’s committee, Daniel continues to provide advice and guidance to young recruits by being available to provide his counsel, both in a professional and personal capacity.

Sparrow added, “Daniel is well known and well regarded in the academia, professional and business communities in Hong Kong. Through his influence, the Hong Kong Chapter is able to enjoy strong support from the community and enjoys a reputation that is the envy of overseas professional organisations in Hong Kong. He is a great ambassador for Engineers Australia.”

Charlie Miller, General Manager – Asia, Aurecon said, “On behalf of all at Aurecon, I would like to congratulate Daniel on his outstanding achievement. His contribution to the engineering profession in Hong Kong is to be greatly admired. Well done Daniel!”
