Aurecon builds profile in Vietnamese transport market

Viet Transport 2010

11 November 2010 - Last week, Ian Van Wijk, Aurecon’s APAC Development Leader - Transport Asset Management presented at the Viet Transport 2010 - Progressing Vietnam's Land Transport Towards the Next Millennium conference in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Following his presentation, Ian featured in a story on the conference and transport issues facing Vietnam in Vietnam News.

Ian spoke about the importance of road maintenance, good planning and different outsourcing models that can be used to improve efficiency and produce cost savings.

Dr Ton That Tu, Aurecon’s new Transport Development leader in Vietnam also participated in a panel discussion about the challenges and opportunities of developing transport infrastructure in Vietnam. Along with Graeme Griffith, the regional leader, the group met government officials, national and international consultants and experts over the two days.

The Vietnamese government has placed emphasis on building and upgrading Vietnam’s road and rail infrastructure through investment from the World Bank and major investors from Asia and Europe. The Deputy Minister of Transport, Truong Tan Vien, spoke about Vietnam’s ambitious land transport development plans to reduce traffic congestion and improve foreign trade that would help reduce poverty.

The team walked away with a better understanding of the needs and issues; an improved network of local experts, consultants, contractors and suppliers and had the opportunity to raise Aurecon's profile as a potential major contributor.

Pending infrastructure opportunities include the upgrade of Ho Chin Minh City’s municipal traffic infrastructure system by developing elevated railway and metro lines; the construction of 19 bridges, and a 47-kilometer long railway from Hanoi’s centre to Noi Bai International Airport.

Viet Transport 2010, into its 3rd staging, is the only international meeting platform in Vietnam for industry professionals in Road, Rail, Safety and Intelligent Traffic System to showcase their products and services and network with related land transport authorities.

The Viet Transport 2010 conference follows Aurecon's recent involvement in the Airport Expansion Asia Conference in Vietnam. The two day event focused on trends, challenges and opportunities in the design, construction and operation of airports from across the continent.
