Aurecon structural expert makes Engineers Australia's Top 100 list

26 June 2009 - Dr Kourosh Kayvani, Aurecon’s special structures leader for the Asia Pacific zone has been recognised in this year’s Engineers Australia Top 100 list of most influential engineers.

The annual list appears in the June edition of Engineers Australia magazine and recognises Australian engineers who have had leading influence in industry, consulting, academia, politics and public service.
 
“I am honoured to be included in such a list of eminent peers in Australia,” Kourosh said.

Appearing in the category of engineering expertise, the recognition is acknowledgement of Kourosh’s 20 years of professional practice, during which time he has pushed the boundaries of structural analysis and design.

During his career, Kourosh has been involved in the design of a number of innovative and iconic projects. London’s Wembley Stadium (Arch and Roof), the ANSTO OPAL reactor building, the Sydney Olympic Hockey Centre and Barito River Suspension Bridges (Indonesia) are just a few standout examples of the projects that he has worked on. 

“Since becoming an engineer, I have always believed in the importance of working closely with clients and colleagues to explore both the possibilities and opportunities to design innovative, vibrant and challenging structures,” Kourosh added.

“For me, by pushing the boundaries of structural design, engineers have a great opportunity to shape the way humans interact with each other and within their communities.”

Currently, Kourosh is the President of the Lightweight Structures Association of Australia and an active board member of the Association of Consulting Structural Engineers, NSW. He is an honorary professor at the University of Sydney and a visiting professorial fellow at the University of New South Wales.

“While I am stimulated daily by my involvement with Aurecon’s major projects, it’s also a great privilege to contribute to practice-oriented teaching and research, and to interact with the sharp-minded and passionate engineers of the future,” Kourosh said.
